What is the average cost of water mitigation service?

Posted by Matt Buchanan

One of the most common questions that brings people to our site is how much it costs to get water out of your home and to get it dried out.  We’ll preface some national averages by saying it is impossible to know exactly what your job will cost without fully estimating it.  Sometimes it will be less and sometimes more.  That being said, if you need a free estimate, just give us a call, no matter where you’re located!

Here are some figures that will give you some general ideas of what you might expect:

Average price per square foot for water extraction and drying for:

Category 1 loss: $3.75/sq. ft.

Category 2 loss: $4.50/sq. ft.

Category 3 loss: $7.00/sq. ft.

(If you’re not sure what category type your loss is, click here)

Average cost for a water loss:

$2,700*

*It’s important to note what services this value includes. When we use the term water mitigation, in our industry that is a fancy way of saying the dry-out portion of the job. In other words, the first step where we make sure all of the moisture is removed from the affected areas. In doing that, certain surfaces may need to be removed and areas cleared out. Therefore, it’s important to understand that the $2,700 mentioned above is just for that initial dry-out phase. Free water damage restoration estimateFor the first phase of any water mitigation process, a team must survey your water damaged property. We use a lot of different moisture detection systems to figure out the complete scope of the damage. Once we have that baseline, we can estimate the work we’ll need to do, along with the estimated cost to perform that work. If you would like us to get started then, we can. If you would like to think about it, no problem! We’ll head out and you can give us a call to schedule the service around your calendar. Just bear in mind the longer you wait the greater the damages will be, so any estimate will need to factor in that additional damage that occurred due to waiting.

People often ask us ‘why is IICRC certification important‘? The answer is simple: it ensures the technician knows what they are doing.
