Delaware was one of the 13 original colonies that participated in the American revolution and is also the first state to ratify the United State’s Constitution (thus why it is known as the “First State”).

The name Delaware derives from Virginia’s original colonial governer, Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr.  Delware is located on the US Atlantic Coast in what is considered the Mid-Atlantic region.

It is bordered to the north and east by New Jersey and to the south and west by Maryland, as well as Pennsylvania on it’s northern border.  Delaware is the 6th most densely populated state but also the country’s 6th least populated as it ranks as the 2nd smallest state in the country.
