Alabama is located in the southeastern part of the US and shares a northern border with Tennessee, and eastern border with Georgia, with Florida and the Gulf of Mexico on its southern edge and Mississippi on its western edge.  It is the 23rd most populous state in the US and is also hosts one of the longest inland waterways in the country at almost 1,300 miles.

After the conclusion of World War II, Alabama began to see its economy shift from one of agriculture to more industrialized opportunities.  With the installation of several armed forces’ bases, the state was able to begin bridging the gap between agriculture and industry and is presently a center of commerce for a wide range of industries, including management, manufacturing, finance, aerospace, healthcare, retail, education as well as technology.
