What happens if it’s not dealt with immediately?

There’s 2 immediate concerns for us a flood cleaning company once water has entered a property…

Water-Damaged-Ceiling-photoStructural Damage

It doesn’t take long at all for a simple water cleanup job to turn into complete reconstruction should the moisture not be removed quickly enough.  In the case of walls, ceilings and floors, water eats away at their structural integrity, meaning that if enough damage is done your home could literally collapse on itself.

mold-sporesBlack Mold Growth

If you’re concerned about mold growing in your walls or anywhere in the affected areas, you’re right to be.  It’s a huge problem and something we’re focused on preventing for the get-go.   We utilize various anti-fungal sprays after we’ve extracted the water to buy us more time to dry out the structure fully.

We guarantee we’ll get your property restored!

satisfaction-guaranteeWater damage restoration services aren’t as cut and dry as other services.  There’s a lot of equipment and variables that make truly drying and restoring a property difficult.  It’s both an art and a science.  And sadly, not all flood repair companies can manage that balance.  But we guarantee it on every job!

We guarantee your complete satisfaction!

What goes into estimating a flood loss?

You’ll be happy to know that the estimating process is very straightforward.  In fact, it doesn’t vary amongst basement water extraction companies (or at least it shouldn’t).  That is because we each use Xactimate to quote the loss and determine the appropriate cost for the work.  Here’s how that works…

How does the flood damage cleanup process work?

Not sure what it is we actually do to cleanup after flooding damage?  Don’t worry, you’re not alone.  Most people that are contacting us are experiencing a water loss for the first time, so here’s some common things you can expect should you require our emergency basement flooding cleanup services:

What if you have sewage water in your basement?

Any water loss is dangerous because the home’s structure can weaken with moisture, but sewage backups are particularly dangerous because the water can host deadly viruses. In the video below, we outline some of the risks associated with the sewage cleanup process and what we do to safely cleanup your basement in the event you have sewer water in it.

How can you protect your home from flooding?

If the 2013 flood taught us anything, it’s that flooding can strike at anytime and when it does, it can be devastating. While there is only so much that we can do in a storm event of that ferocity, there are some things you can do to protect yourself during flash flooding. But what normal rain storms that don’t present danger to us physically? It’s these types of storms that are much more common and many times result in flooded basements.

Here are some simple tips to keep water out of your basement and away from your home:

Are your gutters doing their job?

bad-guttersHave you ever watched your gutters during a storm? If so, is there water dripping off of them and down towards your foundation? Or does the water exit down the downspouts but then pool next to your home’s walls? If so, that water will eventually find its way through your concrete foundation and into your basement. And if it’s a finished basement, you’re looking at a very expensive process to get it dried out and restored. Meanwhile, the cost of getting your gutters repaired is relatively cheap (maybe a few hundred dollars) and keeping them clean just takes an hour a couple of times a year.

Is your lawn sloped away from your foundation?

If your lawn’s grade is sloping towards your foundation or is level, water will pool up agains the sides of your house. Many times people create flower beds next to their home and end up creating a slight dip in the grade of their lawn. If it rains and your gutters are doing their jobs but water is still pooling next to your house, it could be a grade issue. Make sure your lawn is sloped away from your house and towards the street. If the terrain doesn’t allow this because of a neighbor’s house or any other reason, consider installing a french drain to protect your home from flooding!

Do you have a water backflow prevention device installed?

sewage-overflowOne of the most common types of flooding we see in homes is sewer lines backing up and sending sewage water into the basement or other areas of the house. There are usually 2 scenarios that cause this to happen, both of which can be avoided:

1) the line that sends all water out of your home becomes clogged

This usually happens because you either pour something down the drain that builds up on the pipe walls or flush something down the toilet that causes a blockage. Another common issue is tree roots growing into old clay pipes. Regardless of the reason, when it happens the water can’t escape the pipes and instead heads back up from the direction it came, ending up overflowing your toilets, drains or sinks.

2) the city’s sewer line gets clogged or otherwise is overflowing

During times of heavy rain, it’s not uncommon for the city’s sewer lines to get blocked with storm debris. When this happens, the huge amount of water flowing through the system can’t escape quickly enough and needs somewhere to go. Sadly, that somewhere is your home. The illustration below does a good job of laying out the scenario, but can you spot the solution?

So how do you prevent this? Install a water backflow prevention device!
