Sewage back-ups aren’t something that should be taken lightly!

We sincerely hope you don’t get fooled like so many other homeowners into thinking that cleaning up sewage can be done on your own.  While the web is full of do-it-yourself articles offering a step-by-step guide for sewage cleaning, the reality is under no circumstances is it something you should attempt to do on your own!

Raw sewage contains agents that can make you extremely sick.

Don’t believe us?  According the EPA, raw sewage can contain things such as E-coli virus, Hepatitis-A, salmonella, tetanus, round worm, and a host of other agents such as parasites and mildew.  Obviously these are serious viruses and bacteria that can make you very ill, and in some cases, can be fatal.

Protecting yourself against these things isn’t as simple as throwing on some gloves and boots like some DIY articles suggest.  Proper sewage cleanup requires full hazardous material suits and proper ventilation equipment to ensure nothing is contracted via skin contact or through the air. Like this guy, without seeking professional help, you could be no better off months after the backup!

How do we clean-up sewage?

Sewage Damage Assessment & Estimate.  We start by assessing the sewage damage and estimating the cost to clean it up.  It’s completely free to you and there is no obligation to use our service.  We simply come to your home or office building and perform a property walkthrough to determine the amount of damage, layout a plan for mitigating the sewage loss and provide you with an estimate in writing for the cost of sewage cleaning services.

How do you determine the cost of your sewage cleanup services?

Great question!  We plug in the specs of the damage into software that was actually created by insurance companies to determine how much they’ll pay.  In other words, our prices are 100% driven by the insurance companies…no bait and switch or gouging the customer.  We charge the industry accepted rate!

Item Pack-out.  If you choose to proceed and allow us to clean-up the mess, the next step is removing household items that may have been damaged such as boxes, furniture, clothing, bath mats, and anything else that was unlucky enough to be in the path of the sewage.  We safely remove these contents and do our best to clean and disinfect them so they can be returned.  In those instances where we can’t fully restore them, we catalogue them so that you can be reimbursed.

Sewage Removal & Disinfecting.  We then get down to the dirty work of removing any standing sewage.  Using a variety of equipment we safely dispose of the sewage (either by sending it back down your sewer line or transporting it off-site).  Once all of the sewage has been safely removed we thoroughly disinfect the affected areas to kill off any pathogens that might be present on the property.

Moisture Detection & Structural Drying.  Once we’re confident we’ve removed all raw sewage and properly disinfected everything, we then must determine what areas of your home or office have high moisture levels so that they can be properly dried.  We use moisture detectors to spot moisture and apply various drying equipment to quickly dryout the affected areas.  We then remove the equipment once the areas have reached an acceptable moisture level (as determined by a moisture reading in an unaffected area of the home).

Considering cleaning up your sewage backup yourself?

What can you do to mitigate the risks of future sewer backups?

fats-oils-grease-clogging-restaurant-sewer-lineMany losses never have to happen. The city of San Diego has some helpful tips for ways you can prevent a sewer backup. Key among them, watch what you pour down your drain! One of the biggest problems the city runs into is hardened grease blocking the sewer system. You may think you can pour your bacon grease down the drain so long as you have the hot water running. You would be wrong! That just allows the grease to make it to your main sewer line before it hits colder pipes and congeals, creating a blockage that will ultimately send the sewage water back up into your home!
