We have some great news for you, and it pertains to the process of estimating your loss. And there should never be a scenario where a water damage company is charging you too much for their services because ultimately those costs are pre-determined. Watch this video to see what we mean:
There is no cookie cutter approach to water damage repair. There’s too many variables involved with each job to apply the same approach across the board. That being said, here’s a basic outline of what typically happens:
ID Moisture Spots. It’s not just the water and water damage you see that’s dangerous. It’s also the water you don’t see. Moisture can invade your property structure such that the human eye can not see it. That’s why we use advanced equipment to detect moisture so that we know which areas need attention during the drying process.
Remove Items. We’ll remove household items that are soaked and need to be dried, as well items that could get wet. We can send them to our facility where they undergo content restoration services so that we can salvage as much of your damaged property as is physically possible. Once restored, we’ll return the items to your property.
Remove Standing Water. Getting out any standing water from your property as quickly as possible is extremely important. In the right conditions, mold can begin to form in 24 hours. We use heavy-duty water removal equipment to extract standing water, safely dumping it away from your property so that it does not find its way back into your home of office.
Drying Property Structure. While 97% of moisture can be removed during the extraction process, drying out your water damaged property completely requires placing air movers throughout the property that pass hot, dry air on the surface and below the surface of your property. This step occurs until we’re 100% confident that any remaining moisture is removed.
We’ve created a video that shows what it all looks like in action, so feel free to take a minute to watch it so you can educate yourself about the water mitigation & reconstruction process:
So let’s talk about something everyone asks when they call us. How does the insurance claim process work? We’ll talk through a few things you should know…
First, you don’t need to file a claim and wait around for your adjuster to begin the water damage cleanup process. And not only do you not need to do that, you’re actually going to end up with a greater amount of damage and ultimately cost your insurance company more money if you do. You have every right to take control and immediately hire the water damage restoration company you feel comfortable with.
Second, your insurer shouldn’t be referring you to a particular water damage cleanup company. If they do, they’re being unethical. It’s something that was very prevalent for years but has become frowned upon within our industry. Once you understand why they are making the referral, you’ll understand why. Many water restoration providers will make sweetheart deals with adjusters that work like this: you send me business, and I will significantly discount my services. In other words, your insurer wants you to hire a company that will be cheap. Does that sound like an arrangement where your best interests are taken into account? If your insurer recommends a certain company, at least understand their motivation. Once you do, we believe it will be clear that you’re best served by taking control of who you hire to do the water damage cleanup service.
Third, a certified water mitigation company can work with your adjuster to handle the cost of the loss and the final payment. We encourage you to allow us to represent you. We know insurance adjusters dirty tricks, and we won’t be victim to them. Our job is to perform our services at already agreed upon prices. We will perform the work ethically and then ensure your insurer pays us accordingly. Worrying about the payment isn’t something you should have to worry about.
